Vienna cooking classes

Hi!
I'm just starting planning for a full week in Vienna in mid-December. We have lots of museums and music on the list, as well as Christmas markets, of course.

But, since we are planning a full 7 days on the ground (travel days on either side), we have time to go deeper and slower and enjoy special experiences.

One of our favorite activities last December in Spain was a cooking class, which was recommended in Rick's guidebook for that area. There weren't recommendations for these kinds of things in the Vienna guidebook, so hoping some people here can help. (TripAdvisor, etc., turned up a place that seems closed now.)

Here's what I've found. Please let me know if you have anywhere to recommend! Or, if you have another kind of hands-on/interactive learning experience we should consider. (I might be able to convince the males coming along to try learning to waltz, but I doubt it!) Thanks!

a class at Vollpension

Vollpension is a cake and pastry shop where retired grandmas cook according their own old recipes.

Look for BakAdemy for baking classes. They are always on a Saturday, but the dates for December are not given yet. Maybe you contact them regarding December dates.

The baking master classes are available as video tutorials, not for free, though.

Did you book the Christmas Cookies class at Kruste und Krume? I am interested in taking this class in December but when I go to the website everything is in German so I am worried that the class won’t be in English!

It is for sure in German, it is not meant for tourists. But if you are good in cooking, you should understand what is going on. Maybe you prepare a German-English list of common ingredients. What you should get acquainted with is the metric system for weight and volume. We do not use quantities like teaspoon or tablespoon, ounces, etc.

Unfortunately, cooking classes for tourists in Vienna hasn't really caught on. I see this type of question often and struggle to find a response. Maybe this is a business opportunity for me?

Anyway, I'm also struggling to think of other hand's on type of activities - Vienna just doesn't really roll that way for tourists right now. I'm sure you will keep yourself busy with Christmas Markets and museums.
