Vienna Concert Recommendation

We will be in Vienna for 3 days in mid-May. We would love to experience a classical concert in this City of Music, preferably in one of the beautiful traditional venues. Any recommendations? I am also curious about the expectations for dress. Our tendency is to pack casual clothing and lightly since we carry our belongings in packs.

Well, you certainly cannot go wrong with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra - they're about as classical as they come. I don't know if they're in town then but you can certainly check. There is also a list of concerts at the Vienna Blog, which you might find appealing. https://www.theviennablog.com/best-concerts-in-vienna/

I would dress up a bit - nothing fancy, but maybe some black pants with a nice top or even a simple dress with some jewelry and/or a nice scarf.

I second the Vienna Philharmonic, they are one of the best ensembles in the world. The Vienna State Opera, aka the Wiener Staatsoper, is also the best of the best - https://www.wiener-staatsoper.at/en/. In the past I've worn black pants/nice top or a simple dress. Some people will be very dressed up but that's not required. Enjoy, Vienna is wonderful!

I was dead set on attending something in the Musikverein while in Vienna and our unknown (to us) orchestra and soloist were all wonderful. I'm so glad we went.

The Großer Saal of the Musikverein is the place to see a classical concert in Vienna. Built during the time of Franz Joseph, it is Hapsburg wonderful and still considered one of the best performance halls in the world. Ehhhh... I'm not a period dress kind of guy, so I wouldn't pick a Wiener Mozart Orchester performance, but anything else would be great.

I've been to The Musikverein numerous times and the experience is unforgettable , The major issue is what are your exact dates ? That would make it possible to make an accurate recommendation for a program . Your personal taste in programming ,as well as your level of musical sophistication will greatly impact a choice .

I’ve been researching and buying tickets for Vienna concerts in June. Besides what people have suggested, also look at St. Anne’s concerts. The venue looks gorgeous. Some on the concerts are on period instruments. https://classicexclusive.com/en/home/
I bought tickets to a ballet at Wiener Staatsoper; something out of my ordinary to see.
