We have been lucky to book a last minute visit to Vienna in December during the Christmas Market Season. I see 6 in the city centre and also the one at Schonnbrunn Palace. We will be there a week and we also want to see the sites.
Does anyone have any recommendations for which markets are 'must see's' and which ones we could skip? We don't want to be exhausted but we want to enjoy being in Vienna and seeing some of the sites as well as the markets.

The best ones for sure are Schonbrunn, Altes AKH, Belvedere, Spittelberg and Karlsplatz.
You'll have plenty of time to see most of the markets because they are where the sights are. Be sure to start using the metro and trams right away. That will get you around the city quickly. We bought the 8 - day pass for two of us ...enough because we took off to Salzburg and Bratislava for a couple of days during our week in Vienna. Karlsplat, Belvedere, and Am Hoff have great juried art crafts. We're going to Spittle berg tomorrow. ..supposedly it's the best. The markets are a great way to see the city.
