What is the best way to get from airport to downtown? I'm going to be at the Merkur Centrum and I can't decipher Rick's guide as to the best/preferred way to get there from the Airport. Hotel web site is not helpful either. Can someone help? Thanks,

You can either take the cheap S7 to Wien Mitte, or the more expensive City Airport Train that is an express nonstop. At Mitte, take the U4 to Schwedenplatz and you're about 4 blocks away. Or take a taxi from Mitte.

Alternatively you can take the RailJet to "Wien Hbf" (main train station), 16 minutes, non-stop, and use the U1 subway to "Schwedenplatz".
The RailJets and the S7 commuters run every 30 minutes alternating, so there is a train to the city every 15 minutes.
The fare is € 3,90 for both.
The CAT (City Airport Train) is a rip-off.

S7 and RailJet cost the same cheap fare. The RailJet is faster, but it is not worth waiting for the next one if a S7 is departing earlier.
