Is there a place to stay in Vienna that you highly recommend? Did you see a concert in Vienna that you absolutely loved? Thank you!
We absolutely loved staying in the Hotel Altstadt, and many years earlier in the Hotel Imperial and the Hotel im Palais Schwartzenberg. As for concerts, the Vienna State Opera just might be the greatest in the world. Pricey, though.
Often there are performances in Schonnbrun Palace in their theater. We once attended a comedic play there. It was in German, but with some slapstick-type humor it was enjoyable nonetheless. And the plush setting was a nice experience! It was pretty cheap compared to something at the opera house. It's worth checking out. And maybe there are concerts in some churches, as there are in Paris.
It's hard to beat the location of the intercontinental. I have never had a problem with a stay there.
For musical experiences, the opera is truly wonderful, but there are so many other options. In the summer, the theatre has an outdoor screen that you can enjoy for free. There are always many other free performances including quintet and quartet music. Yes, Schönbrunn, bit you don't need to go that far out of the city center to enjoy music. Vienna is a magical place to visit. Enjoy it.

Sadly, not anymore, as well as the live streaming via the Internet. Both are victims of cost cutting measures.
Besides the opera, there are the two major classical concert venues: Musikverein and Konzerthaus.

That is unfortunate......But, there are still many options.
The Sunday morning church service at the Augustiner Church has sublime music.
I recently stayed at the K+K Maria Theresia hotel based on the RS guidebook and it was great. It's on a quiet side street within a 2 block walking distance to both the Volkstheater U-Bahn, the MuseumsQuartier, and a Spar supermarket.
In terms of music, quite a few (regulated) buskers can be found in various U-Bahn stations. I saw a girl at Volkstheater station playing the harp! Of course nothing beats the Vienna State Opera, but it's definitely a splurge unless you get the standing-room tickets. You may also consider the Volksoper which seems to be more of a "pops" venue - their upcoming schedule includes My Fair Lady, Tick Tick Boom, and La Cage aux Folles in addition to Strauss, Puccini, and Mozart.
Another vote for K+K Maria Theresia hotel. Stayed there on a RS tour in October. Good location and comfortable.
For the hotel recommendation, a budget and a date are pretty essential, but the list above is a good start as it does span the spectrum from just shy of 300euro to just shy of 800 euro in the shoulder season (refundable).
Looks like the K + K Vienna is not available anymore?
