My husband and I will be in Austria next March. We had planned to be in Vienna for four nights, Salzburg for3 nights, Innsbruck for 2 nights and spending a night at the Munich airport hotel. After doing some research I am now wondering if there is someplace other than Innsbruck we should go after Salzburg. I'm reading that it may be very touristy. It wouldn't have to be in Austria. Germany would fine. We are interested in history and like to nature but my husband has a some mobility issues. Nothing terrible if he uses a walking stick, but hiking up the Alps is out! :)
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Have you been to Munich?
In Aug/Sep this year my partner and I stayed in Vienna (5 nights), Salzburg (3 nights), and Bavaria (5 nights -- including Munich for 3 nights), as part of a longer trip that included Czechia and Hungary. One option would be to add the 2 nights to Vienna OR Bavaria -- or split them between the two locations; another would be to visit Cesky Krumlov in Czechia (there is CK Shuttle door-to-door service to/from Cesky Krumlov to both Vienna and Salzburg).

A couple of observations- first there will still be snow, and possibly a bit of ice, on the ground that time of year. Second, given your husband's mobility issues, engaging in winter sports likely won't be a priority. For those reasons, I'd stick with a city for the extra nights. There is certainly enough in Munich to keep you busy for that amount of time.
Innsbruck did not look to me really touristy this last August; much less people than in the past years. If you hit salzburg at festival time, well, that is being touristy.
there are some options I don't recall halfway between Salzburg and Munich that people seem to like.
I stayed at the Hilton at Munich airport which is about 3 feet from the runways, couldn't be any more convenient. And the airport is a bit like a train station so there are quite a few dining and shopping options open to everyone (including one of the nicest supermarkets I've ever seen which was kinda odd). There's a wurst cart in the plaza outside that looks like a little airplane that everyone seems to love.
