Van rentals in Austria

My family is traveling from Prague to Vienna, smell, Hallstatt, Salzburg, Munich in May. I want to rent a vehicle to drive through Austria. I wanted to train from Prague to Vienna, rent a van in Vienna, return it in Salzburg and train to Munich. I can not find a vehicle to fit 6 passengers on rental websites (I did find a full size paneled van but then my kids could t see anything!). Is it doable to take the train all through these destinations or anyone have a better idea of vehicle rentals?

There are multiple trains every hour running between Vienna and Salzburg, but there must be something else you want to see that requires a van. What is it?

PS, Sixt shows a Mercedes 7 passenger window van with an automatic at $600/day. from Vienna Airport to Salzburg Airport.

Thank you for your reply Sam! Yes, I see the Mercedes but its quite out of our budget for a week. I was hoping for a 7 passenger van like we have in the states. We plan to stop in Melk and Hallstatt before going to Salzburg. The biggest thing is that we have 4 kids and will have quite a bit of luggage, so making stops and transferring trains would be cumbersome, which is why we would like to rent a van.

The Mercedes is a 7 passenger van like we have in the States, its just that they want an arm and a leg for it, which is typical in Europe. Often they double the price for an automatic. Can you drive a stick? Go to the consolidator, Autoeurope, and see if they can help.

Check on car-seat requirements for children in Austria. I recall other posts saying some countries require seats for older, larger children than is the case in the US.

Check on car-seat requirements for children in Austria.

Violation of these requirements can lead to hefty fines.

A children's seat, having rigid so called Isofix mounting brackets, is required for children of less than 4'5" (135 cm) height, up to an age of 14 years.
