Validating SparSchiene Tickets in Austria

Hi there!

Just a quick question regarding SparSchiene tickets I have booked online from Salzburg to Vienna. I understand how to collect the tickets - "You receive a collection code which you can use to collect your ticket from all ÖBB self-service machines or ÖBB ticket offices in Austria. In Austria, you can pick up your ticket in either one of two ways: by entering your pick-up code in one of ÖBB’s ticket vending machines, or by presenting the pick-up code at one of the company’s manned ticket counters".

However, once they are printed, do I need to validate /get them stamped as well? If print these tickets from the self-service machine when I arrive into Salzburg will they be fine for travel two days later? Or do I need to print them immediately before I depart?

Thank you for your guidance in advance,

Mia

SparSchiene tickets are for a specific train at a specific time. There is no need to valid them, nor is there any sort of validation machine for such tickets. The conductor will validate it when you are on the train.

Do you need to produce the credit card you bought the tickets with, as you do in Germany?

I've never been asked for the bank card/credit card, so I don't think that is a policy for Austria. If you want to be sure, then write a message to Oebb.

On the last three trips to Austria, in which I had purchased SparSchiene tickets, I was never asked to show the credit card that I used to purchase the tickets; only showed the conductor the tickets that I had printed out at home before the trip.
