Uber Ride to Vienna Airport in Early Morning

Hi Everyone,
Do you think we'll have any difficulties getting an Uber ride around 5 AM. We're staying in the Old Town and have an early Saturday departure from Vienna Airport. Thanks.

I don’t know why there would be any difficulty getting an Uber. I took the Express “CAT” train from Vienna’s Mitte Train station (“Wien Mitte”) which only goes to the airport. The first train departs daily at 5:37 am and takes about 16 minutes to reach VIE Airport. Wien Mitte train station is just outside Vienna’s Old City Center near Stadtpark. The CAT trains are one level below the street level entrance. You can buy your CAT train ticket from the machines near the entrance on the street level and then take the escalator downstairs. The fare is about €9 per person. You might check things out the day before your flight so everything goes smoothly.
Have a great Trip!

One visit, my hotel called a cab for me and two other travelers around 5 AM. Another time, a few of us took the bus from the Center to the airport - first one of the day. Both worked fine.

Thanks. We've considered the CAT but it gets us to the airport at 6 AM and that puts us outside the recommended two-hour pre-flight arrival time. So, at this point, leaning towards Uber/taxi or S-bahn. We will use CAT on arrival.

The CAT is a rip-off. Its tickets are expensive and not valid for any continuation using public transport in Vienna. They have so many signs and advertisements at Vienna International Airport that a lot of gullible tourists assume that this is the only train to the city.

There are two train routes between Vienna and the airport. Which is the right one depends from where you come or where you want to go to.

The S7 connects to Wien Mitte train station (subway U3), the RailJets (RJ or RJX) connect to Wien Hauptbahnhof main train station (subway U1) and to Wien Meidling train station (subway U6).

The first S7 train departs from Wien Mitte at 4:19am, arrives at the airport at 4:41am. You can also use the REX7 (regional express).

The Vienna Airport Lines buses run all night on two routes; departing from Wien Hauptbahnhof bus terminal and from Morzinplatz (1st city borough) respectively.

Uber is not popular in Vienna, only tourists uses it. There is no advantage over an ordinary cab. For going to the airport, when ordering just mention that you want the flat fare.

wmt1, when arriving at the airport and going into the old section of Vienna, is there a "flat fare"/ I will be near the Opera House and I have a daughter arriving the next day. She has little experience in Europe, so I would prefer she take a cab or Uber to our hotel. Which would you suggest?

@joseph
All taxi operators offer a flat fare for the ride between Vienna International Airport and Vienna City or vice versa.

Some have a single fare, no matter where you go to or depart from in Vienna, some operators differentiate between the city boroughs.

But in all cases you get the cheap flat fare - sometimes less than €40 - only if you book the ride in advance, best to be done online.

Here are two examples (none of them I personally have hired):

Thanks for the CAT, uber and S7 info. The S7 is the one we would take. We normally use public transit but since our outbound flight is early (and I get nervous) we wanted to know of additional resources.

I would recommend having your hotel book a taxi the day before your departure so that one is ready and waiting for you at the time you wish to leave. That went smoothly for us when we were in Vienna.
