Hello I will be in Germany/Austria the first two weeks of September. I'm still fine tuning my itinerary. I would like to spend two nights in the Tyrol region, but want the first day to be a rest day. Does anybody have any recommendations on where in Tyrol to stay? That doesn't require a car to get to.
Most likely Innsbruck.
Much of Tirol requires a rental car to see.
Mayrhofen, St. Johann, Seefeld, Sölden
Actually Tyrol has excellent public transport and you don't need a car if you don't want to drive.

Keep in mind that Tyrol has actually 3 parts: Tirol(let's say north Tyrol), Osttirol(East Tyrol) and the largest and probably most beautiful part is Südtirol(South Tyrol) belonging to Italy since the end of WWI.
Hi,
Easy would be the Innsbruck area. Our favorite old town and place to stay is the Gasthof Badl in Hall in Tirol. Bus and train accessible.

Another vote for Gasthof Badl in Hall in Tirol. We stayed there last summer without a car.
With only two nights, I don't think the OP has time for Südtirol. Probably sticking to Innsbruck (+ its vicinity) is the best bet without a car.
Last time, I stayed in Seefeld with a car. I saw lots of rail road reconstruction.
I would like to thank all of you. For all of the recomendations. I tried to book a room for the Gasthof Badl, but there was no vacancies. On they days I would be in Tyrol.
Possibly look at places in Igls? Maybe someone can recommend a place? Another place we liked was the Pension Alpina in Hungerburg. This is a small plateau overlooking Innsbruck. Absolutely gorgeous vistas to the Italian Alps. You would take the Hungerburgbahn from just outside Innsbruck pedestrian zone or a bus there.
