We have a place in east Tyrol -- near Aubervillgraten -- I was wondering the best villages to stay in the tyrol area?

Ah, I believe you mean Ausservillgraten (or Außervillgraten, ß is not 'b', it's like ss).
If you have a place in Außervillgraten, why not stay there? It looks like Außervillgraten is actually close to the Alto Adige (Süd Tirol), part of Italy - Brixen (Bressanone), Kastelruth (Castelrotto), or Bozen (Bolzano). Might even want to stay in Cortina d'Ampezzo.

We have stayed in Sexten/Sesto, IT and enjoyed it. I like to visit Bruneck, IT. While in the area I would recommend a visit to the Kronplatzgipfel and Antholzer See. I'm a fan of the Virgental and Defeggental (valleys) in Osttirol, AT. A visit to Kals am Großglockner? I like Lienz too. The views from Zettersfeld are nice.
