My boyfriend will be attending a conference in Vienna the last week of September and I'm lucky enough to go. We'll spend 4 days in Vienna for the conference then have 7 days to travel before heading home. There are so many options, that it can be a little overwhelming. Salzburg is a must, but where else to go? If Salzburg is our second stop we can travel to Hallstatt then west to Innsbruck, maybe hit a few German boarder towns, then Switzerland. We could also go north to Munich or Prague. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!
Do you have 11 days or 11 nights, and where do you fly in and out of?
Naturally, I suggest here, closer to Vienna than Munich or Prague.
You might consider a day trip to Bratislava, one hour by train and then onto Hallstatt then to Salzburg and then on to Innsbruck or Munich, that should use your time up.The key is where are you flying back from.

We are flying in and out of Vienna. We'll be in Vienna for 4-5 days then have 7-8 days left to travel around the region. Thanks for the suggestions. Very helpful!
With 7-8 days, I'd take the train to Budapest, then fly to Prague, then train back to Vienna.
Seefeld for hiking, mountains, day trip to Mittenwald and Leutasch Gorge then Salzburg for the remainder to see Salzburg itself, wolfgangsee, Hallstatt, Berchtesgaden, Gosausee.
