We are taking a cruise in July and will have two days and one night in Vienna. We have an included 2 hour excursion the first day. Suggestions for places to eat and not to miss things to see please. Thinking about a tour of Schonbrunn Palace the second day.
I would urge you to visit the Prater, one of the great recreation areas in the world. Running, hiking, biking, parcour, horse riding, picnicking, amusement park ... you name it. Top it off with a pork knuckle and beer, and you have a terrific evening.
I'd also suggest the Hotel Sacher for a serving of their famous torte "mit schlag" and seeing the Hundertwasserhaus. Unlike anything else you've seen. Finally I'd suggest the Kunsthistorisches Museum. It's to my mind the greatest art museum in the world. I might be biased, of course.
Cafe Central, this is a blurb from their website "A revolutionary (Trotsky), a psychoanalyst (Freud), several writers and poets (including Polgar, Zweig and Altenberg) and an architect (Loos) walked into a café. What sounds like the start of a joke was an everyday occurrence at Café Central (est. 1876). Over coffee, cake and the odd cigar, some of the greatest poets, philosophers and – it has to be said – storytellers the world has ever seen, got together in Vienna’s most attractive coffeehouse." Its location is in a good middle spot between larger museums, parks and other tourist spots. Its steeped in history and I felt very classy sitting in there. I can't remember the food or drinks but I remember the feeling of sitting in that lovely cafe and just enjoying life.
I'd also suggest the Hotel Sacher for a serving of their famous torte ...
Forget it. Not worth one hour to wait in line for a dry cake. Better to go here:

Café Central ... and just enjoying life.
The joy has vanished due to the inundation by tourists.
If you like waiting 2hrs for a table: Sacher, Demel, Central.
Greets from Vienna!
Strange suggestions here.
Definitely do the Schonbrunn Palace on your second day.
For your dinner, I recommend a classic Austrian place like Glacis Beisl with a lovely garden or Palmenhaus with a glorious terrace.
Do not go to Cafe Central, Demel or Sacher. These have all been spoiled and are now hideous with instagrammers. Go instead to Kaffee Alt Wien, Prueckel or Gerstner.
As for what to see on Day 1, I strongly recommend a nice walk from the Opera House up Kaernterstrasse to St. Stephan's, then across the Graben, taking a left on Kohlmarkt which takes you through the Hofburg. Then walk towards the Ring and turn right, heading towards the Rathaus. You might enjoy having a drink at the summer food festival at the Rathaus - very popular. Perhaps also make time to see The Kiss at the Belvedere Palace.
