Trouble Booking OBB Train

Is anyone else having trouble with OBB train booking?

I had no issue the other day (Salzburg to Melk), but now that I want to make an additional reservation (Vienna to Budapest), I keep getting error messages. Sometimes it's that the seats I selected are not available (even though I am able to select them and that all 74 seats are available) and sometimes I put my credit card information in and get all the way to the end and get a message that the transaction could not be complete and to contact the merchant...which gets me nowhere.

On the web, which is what I did for the trip from Salzburg. I am trying to book the train for June 23rd. It says that tickets are available, lets me select the price, terms, seats, everything, but it won't go through.

I cant prove it, but it suspect its too early for the international ticket. I know. They should just tell you but its a train and nothing about trains is easy. I did look at the train on the MAV site and it was listed at full price which is odd too. Wait a couple of months, it wont sell out

Interesting since it worked with the same credit card when booking a different train. I'll call the credit card company just in case. Thanks for the tip. In the meantime, I'm hoping that maybe the window for booking isn't open as was also suggested.

I use my credit card on line in Europe all the time and very rarely have to use it.

I dont recall MAV, Lufthansa, Wizz. Ryan or Air Serbia requiring it, but maybe one did and I just dont remember.

I'm surprised you dont have it. I presume its easy to set up. Interesting that It was recently suggested on another thread that Trainline had fewer credit card issues. Possibly their lax security was what was being described.

You should add it to your card anyway.

Usually you do not notice it at all. 3-D Secure is a proof for the merchant that the credit card used is valid, so he can be sure to get his money. It is up to the credit card issuer or the bank involved whether they ask you for an extra confirmation of the transaction (a TAN, fingerprint on mobile phone, a password, etc.).
