Travelling to Zurich -> Vienna & back

Hi ,

I want to travel From Zurich to Vienna on Aug 11 -2017 and return to Zurich on Aug-14 morning .I'm travelling with my family (2 adult and 2 kids -- 11 yrs & 13 yrs)

For Return journey from Vienna to Zurich I want to catch night train with sleeper compartment & with private washroom in compartment .

I read so many boards and every where ticket price mentioned is so cheap but when i look on OBB site it's more than Air ticket...

Please advice me .

Thanks a lot in Advance.

When you take a night train, you are basically paying for a not-very-comfortable hotel room that moves on railway tracks. In your case, it looks like you would need two deluxe sleeping compartments, so yes, airplane tickets would be cheaper.

It's well over 7 hours to drive this route, and farther than I'd want to go on a train--almost 450 miles.
I'd be flying if I wasn't stopping in between at Munich, Salzburg and seeing Western Tirol.

Hi,

That is certainly an option, the EN night train going Vienna to Zurich is direct, a bit over ten hours, arrives ca 0830 hrs. I took two EN night trains on my last trip in May/June.

It can be cheap if you book 3+ months in advance. Your date is a week off, you'll be lucky to get space at any price. What about the outward journey?

The cheap prices, like the "Sparschiene" tickets, are only for the basic rail fare. The add-ons, e.g. sleeping compartment, are always the same.

The number of people in a sleeping compartment defines the basic fare: For less than three people per compartment you have to buy first class tickets.
