travelling to vienna from melk then on to budapest need a pension around vienna for a few days

Hello I need a bit of help with my itinerary going from melk to Vienna then on to Budapest. Need a pension to stay in but not the most expensive one. Close to a train station. What train station will I leave from to go to Budapest. Any recommendations for places to stay in Budapest again reasonably priced. Should I stay in Budapest or is there a nice quaint village not far from Budapest

Why do you want to stay close to the train station? No need as public transport is excellent in Vienna and it is clearly better to locate yourself near the sights. You will also likely be using two different stations anyway...

What is your budget and what are your dates?

Hello Emily I just thought being close to the train station would help but if you suggest otherwise please help me. My dates are June 23 for 3 days we do not have a pension booked yet or hotel. My budget is around 60 euros per night for the two of us. Any help will be appreciated we are seniors.

Hi,

Going from Melk to Vienna means you will arrive at Wien Westbahnhof. I stay in this area. Some nice, not too pricey places, hostels too. In your price range: Motel One, adjoins the station, also Hotel Fürstenhof (a 3 star in the old style, which reminds me of the type I saw in '77) is across the street next to the Cafe Westend restaurant. The closest Pension near the station is ca 10 mins walk down Mariahilferstrasse to U-Bahn stop of Zieglergasse....Pension Hargita, on Andreasgasse 1. You'll see advertising sign for the Pension.

Very east to go from Vienna to Budapest. The train leaves from Westbahnhof direct; staying in this area, you'll just walk over the station going underground, look for Budapest Keleti pu, which is the station you'll arrive at.

If you haven't much interest in Budapest or if you have a week to visit then maybe you would like to stay in Szentendre or Vac or Godollo or..... The commute to any of these will be about an hour each way. Cost, maybe $12 round trip. If you are coming to see Budapest and you don't want to loose so much time traveling or if you want to enjoy the evenings in Budapest without worrying about finding your way after dark then I suggest that you stay in Budapest somewhere along the M1 Metro Line. Find a map. Now find Andrassy ut (Budapest's Grand Avenue) and on that avenue you will find an intersection / metro stop called The Oktogon. Now draw a line from the Oktogon down the center of Andrassy ut until you reach the river. Look a block above that line to maybe three blocks below that line. You will find everything from excellent rental apartments to hostels to 3 and 4 and 5 star hotels. I prefer apartments but my favorite hotel is the K&K Opera.
