I’m traveling from the USA to Austria in mid -November. I will be staying in Innsbruck and am looking to do a day trip to Solden to ski. I am looking to rent a car for the day to travel to Solden. Has anyone ever done this drive? Is there insight to how road conditions are this time of year? Is there a chance we would experience road closures and not be able to get to Solden?
It is very unusual for roads to close in Austria due to snow. But why wouldn't you take the train? It will ultimately take you much less time.
Note that the regular skiing season will commence on November 14th, 2024 in Sölden. Before this date only the two glaciers are open for skiing.
Drive no problem (except in snowstorm). Skiing maybe later into December-January. Global warming is taking a toll. There are good weeks.
Yes, train to Oetztal, then the 320 bus to Soelden. It is 20.30 EUR each way, and perhaps less with a VVT day ticket. Takes about 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
