Travel in Vienna and Prague in Nov

I have researched Vienna and Prague but most travel books assume travel in summer. Any experience and advice on traveling in Nov? What to do when weather to cold to walk around, eat outside, bike, etc?

too cold to walk around? No, in fact in the summer it can be too hot. Obviously you'll need a couple of layers, at least sweatshirt plus a good fleece.
too cold to eat outside? Depends, some places will have outdoor heating - for the smokers.
too cold to bike? see walking....

What you didn't ask was daylight. There may not be much, it will be dark before 4pm and if cloudy won't be very good at anytime.

So if you want to visit museums and just walk between places it could be OK (and less crowded) but if you want a mainly outdoors stay then it could be miserable.

If you're going in November, you have to bundle up sufficiently to walk around, or you'll be miserable. However, having done this, you walk as you would in July. And biking is the same.

Outdoor eating is certainly available in these cities when the weather is nice, but these aren't cities where it's a big thing. Due to the fact that outdoor eating is only desirable for a portion of the year, all restaurants have lots of indoor seating (i.e., places don't close when it's raining, snowing, or just too cold to eat outside).

What to do? Well, these cities have a huge number of indoor attractions - again, they aren't Honolulu or Miami, where the focus for visitors is on good-weather activities. You should definitely invest in an unlimited transit pass for your days there; you'll probably take more trams and subways, and walk less, than you might in the summer.

Having said that, I have a coworker who really is miserable if she had to wear more than a light sweater or light jacket when visiting a place, or has to worry about it getting "cold" when she will be there (which to her is lower than about 55 degrees Fahrenheit) . If you agree, go another time. And while it may sound as if I'm making fun of her, I personally don't like visiting places in the rain, so I do understand how weather affects a visit. So do check websites to see the November weather for the past few years, and make sure it will work for you.

If you are coming to Vienna in late November, you might get a Christmas Market. Stick to indoor activities as the weather will probably be wet and cold. Lots of museums and cafes to visit in Vienna.

November is usually not too cold. Of course days are shorter and big advantage - crowds are thinner.
