We have 14 nights in Austria. We are flying in/out of Vienna (no choice). We plan on staying 4-5 nights in Vienna and would like to visit Melk, Bratislava, Salzburg, Fussen ( for the castles) and Budapest. Bratislava and Melk could be day trips. We are think of putting Budapest at the end bc it’s close to Vienna for the last night.
Suggestions for itinerary and why?

Bear in mind that Fussen is essentially an outlier here , being 6 hours from Vienna ( two hours - Fussen to Munich by regional train - 4 hours - Munich to Vienna by Express Train ) . If you could swing it , Fly into Munich and head to Fussen , then a straight line ( no backtracking ) Fussen - Salzburg - Vienna - Budapest . Day trips to Melk and Bratislava from Vienna are reasonable .

When I looked up transportation from Budapest to Vienna, one of the suggestions was Ridesharing for 13 euros and timed at about 3 hours. Seems like it would be the most convenient way to get you and your luggage to the airport at the end of your trip. By the Way...I really enjoyed Budapest and would give it a couple days.
