I want to make sure I have my directions down correctly:
1) I take the S-Bahn from the Munich airport to Muenched-Ost Station then board a train to Salzburg, using a "Bayern ticket", once I'm in Salzburg I take any of these buses to old town (#1,3,5 or 6)
I've never been to Austria or Germany and find that the folks on this Forum are very helpful for those of us how like to travel through the "backdoor"

I'm not too sure if the Bayern Ticket includes Salzburg city buses, but I would be very surprised if it did. I'll wait for Lee or others to respond, but logic tells me your Bayern ticket only gets you as far as Salzburg Hauptbahnhof.
I was planning on getting a bus pass in Salzburg.
The Bayern-Ticket includes the train into Salzburg Hbf, because they are run by the Bahn. The buses in Salzburg are not run by the Bahn and are not included with the Bayern-Ticket.

When you get to the S-Bahn station at the airport, the departure board will show S1 to Ostbahnhof and S8 to somewhere west of town - Geltendorf, Herrsching, etc. The S1 takes the long way around, through Laim and the Hbf, ending at Ost. The S8 goes through Ost first, then through town to the west. Take the S8.
Make sure you take a Regional Express (RE) from Ost. ICs and ECs also stop there going to Salzburg, but the Bayern-Ticket doesn't cover them.
