Transportation from Vienna to Munich near airport - what would you do?

I took the train in that situation a few years ago. Much more pleasant than airports/planes.

We took the train. Easy, peasy. No TSA, no security, etc. No getting out to the airport 3 hours early. Delivers one right to the Munich Airport.

I've looked at DB for a train, I've looked at a Lufthansa flight.

Don't forget to check the strike schedules.

Given the mess airports are, my 1st choice would be the train. Even in 'normal' circumstances It looks like total travel time by train is faster than the plane.

No personal experience, so I won't charge the normal $0.02.

Westbahn seems to be considerably cheaper than DeutscheBahn. I haven't booked yet though...

Man in Seat 61 will guide you, there are several options and discount schemes available. Always take the train when available, save the earth and all that.

You have the choice between OeBB and Westbahn for this trip. Compare the prices as both have bargain offers for certain trains. I strongly recommend to buy seat reservations.

That's true, but DB sells tickets at its own rate for these trains. So one should compare prices at three places, ÖBB, DB and Westbahn. The total fare to MUC is important. DB and ÖBB have a through fare, Westbahn only to Munich East. E.g., for mid August, dep. Vienna 10:30: DB €48, ÖBB 106 (!), Westbahn 47 + 12 airport ticket. On some other dates it's the ÖBB that is cheaper than the DB.
