What is the best way to get from Salzburg to Vienna if I don't want to rent a car?

Two different train operators, OEBB and Westbahn, with several trains every hour taking 2 1/2 hours.

Direct train -- very easy. ÖBB can give you reserved seats ahead of time, or you can take Westbahn and buy unreserved tickets on board.

Some of the best sightseeing in Europe is between Salzburg and Vienna, but only by car.
