Train to Bratislava - best way to purchase

Hello all- planning first trip to Austria and considering doing a day trip to Bratislava - how do the train tickets work? Do you have to purchase a specific seat for a specific time? or is it like Belgium where you buy for a specific route, but can get on any train running that route that day?
Is there an advantage purchasing in advance? if so, what company do you buy form?

Sorry if silly questions, but my train experience is limited to Paris and Belgium - thanks!

actually I just found this and read it in Rick's guidebook
OBB Bratislover Ticket
Looks like 18 euro for round trip + public transportation for one day - sounds like a pretty good deal

edit- looks like that is what you just posted - thanks!!

Yes, the Bratislover Ticket is the right choice, especially because you can use trams and busses in Bratislava.

There are two different train lines going from Vienna to Bratislava, one terminating on the left (north) side of the Danube river, the other one on the right (south) side. The train ticket is valid for both. There is a bus connecting the two train stations and the city.

If you want to make most out of your trip you may use either train line for going back and forth.
