Train Schedules for New Years Day

Eurail has not published the train schedules for December at this time. Does anyone know if the trains will be running a normal schedule on Sunday, New Years day 2017? We were hoping to catch a train from Vienna to Munich on that day. But don't want to book a hotel in Munich for that day if the trains aren't running. Thanks in advanced. I've also e-mailed the Eurail and Euraide offices but not heard back at this time.

Why are you dealing with Eurail? You can find the schedules at www.bahn.com or the more cumbersome www.oebb.at. All of Europe will reschedule trains beginning December 11. They should be published and on the web sometime in late September (except in Italy) . They may be reduced on New Years day, but they will be operating as they are essential public transport.

This year's Jan. 1 schedule is still viewable through DB and ran similar to a Sunday schedule, even including the earliest (6:30 a.m.) departure.

Do not use Eurail - they are an overpriced ticket reseller/travel agency. Deal with the actual train companies. In your case OeBB or DeutscheBahn, as noted above. To answer your question, trains still run on holidays. Planes fly, so why wouldn't trains go?

Emily, I think you mean don't use RailEurope. RailEurope is a reseller that marks up ticket beyond the prices from the sources.

Eurail is a cooperative effort of the national railroads of Europe to package and market rail passes. They do show train schedules on their website (so you can use their rail passes), but they don't sell tickets (they are expecting you to buy a railpass).

Ah, but the OP said:

I think Emily was just responding to those statements. I assumed the OP was referring to Rail Europe.

Eurail, Rail Europe, whatever you want to call them, are not the official site for schedules or tickets for train travel in Europe.
