train salzburg to venice

Family of 5 traveling in early June from Salzburg to Venice. Is it worth the longer trip to take the scenic train via Innsbruck and Brenner Pass or take the earlier train via Villa ch and have more time in Venice that afternoon? Only have 3 nights in Venice.

The trip from Salzburg to Villach is very scenic as well, with high mountains and attractive towns.

Are you sure it's a train all the way to Venice, though? Quite often you need to transfer to a bus at Villach, although the buses are comfortable.

More Villach-Venice service is by bus, but there's at least one train per day, which you can catch with the departure around 8:00 from Salzburg. All daytime service between Villach and Venice requires a seat reservation; even though DB schedules are not currently displaying the reservation note for the buses, those seats are reserved.
