Doing some planning for our summer trip and wondering how scenic the direct train from Lindau (Reutin station) to Salzburg via Feldkirch, Innsbruck and Worgl is. Looks like it goes through some beautiful country.
In general, any route through the Alps is very scenic.
Without some specific dates I'm not certain I can help. I didn't think that DB ran direct to Salzburg. Typically at least a change in Munich. And heading east it would seem atypical that a route through Innsbruck via Munich to Salzburg is anything but direct.
Regardless, the routes from Munich to Salzburg can be beautiful as well as the route from Innsbruck to Salzburg. I've traveled it many times and it never disappoints.
Have a great trip.
Yeah this is the ÖBB train which ends up in Vienna. Departs from Lindau at 1031 gets to Salzburg about 1500. I like it because it’s direct, avoids transfer in Munich, and is about 25 euros right now for many summer days.
There are a number of other RJ that start in Bregenz, a short S-Bahn ride away from Lindau.
I'd jump on that then. See if you can purchase a reservation so as to not have a seat issue. Also, I suspect that has a "no cancel" fare so you better be certain on the date. Great fare for a great journey!
Just be aware that this one direct daily train is not an ÖBB train. It only becomes one once it is in Austria. It is operated by DB till Bregenz. As it comes all the way from Frankfurt it is quite possible that it will be delayed.
By all means book that. But if it turns out to have a substantial delay before getting to Lindau just hop on any train going to Bregenz, and board the next train to Salzburg there.
