My girlfriend and I will head to Vienna after 6 nights in Budapest. We're thinking of spending a couple nights on Lake Balaton in between.
Does anyone know if there is a good train connection from here to Vienna? I understand this is a popular vacation area. Thanks!

I didn't do an exhaustive search, but as I suspected; all rail traffic goes through Budapest. So, yes, you can take a train from Balatonfüred (for instance) to Vienna with one change in 5 to 5.5 hours.

You're right. Lake Balaton is a popular place among Hungarians and also for lots of Germans visiting Hungary. They call the place Plattensee.
