Can anyone help me figure a train ticket price from Vienna to Trieste, Italy? We are going in September, but, I know I can just put the dates in for next month and the schedules should be about the same. So figure leaving on a Wednesday, one way, early morning or over night on Tuesday night to Trieste, Italy. I can get the route information on the DBAHN site, but, it doesn't give prices. When I use the Eurail site it doesn't show a direct route, but, if I break it up and go from Vienna to Venice and then to Trieste it comes up, but, at over $200pp.. is that how you have to do this?
Try www.oebb.at
The trains to Udine are operated by the Austrian National Railway, so they will have pricing info.
Edit- I am also seeing a price on www.trenitalia.com
You need to understand what you are using. dbahn is super for seeing all the schedules. Probably best and easiest to use. But you can only purchase tickets for trains beginning or ending in Germany. No prices for other schedules. Eurail and Rail Europe are traveling agencies that sell tickets for a most but not all trains in Europe and, generally, will not show discounted tickets. If Eurail is not showing a direct it just means that they are not selling a ticket for the direct route.
Always use the national rail sites for purchasing tickets. And that generally is your best price also.
OEBB, the national Austrian rail carrier, has a new ticketing website. Here is the link:
https://tickets.oebb.at/en/ticket
As a general rule, you should always use the website of the national carrier where your journey originates.
Oebb won't give prices yet either as it is too early to buy this ticket. Wait a few months. It takes 10 hours for this journey. Are you sure this is the best itinerary for you?
