Train from Vienna to Munich in a couple of weeks

Are there any issues with train transportation from Vienna to Munich? I saw some info on issues with Salzburg but wasn't sure if Vienna is equally affected. I had been concentrating on the recent issues in Brussels (my return flight starting point) and hadn't really given a thought to getting from Vienna to Munich. I'm assuming things are ok other than some id checks?

Thanks.

The issue is the same, since the usual train route from Vienna to Munich crosses the border at Salzburg. No train is currently running direct all the way from Vienna to Munich. German (DB) and Austrian (OEBB) schedule web sites both give you an idea of the necessary additional connection.

The best place to look for schedules and changes is the German Rail website. The schedule for two weeks for now still shows RailJets (RJ) cancelled from Salzburg to Munich and Eurocity trains (EC) cancelled outside Germany (i.e., running only from Freilassing, Germany, across the river from Salzburg, to Munich). If you get to Salzburg, the regional, Meridian, trains are running from Salzburg to Munich, but there is time for passport checks in Salzburg.

However, there is a slightly slower connection by ICE from Vienna to Plattling via Passau connecting to a Regional Express (RE) from Plattling to Munich. That connection seems to be running normally.

According to the Seat 61 twitter account, Railjet services will begin running again tomorrow (27th November) but with compulsory ID checks for all passengers at Salzburg.

Not sure if you already made the journey, but I took the train today from Vienna to Munich (RailJet) and in Salzburg we had to switch trains. Basically, the train from Vienna stopped in Salzburg and the Munich bound train was on the other side of the platform. There were guards doing a passport check before you could board the train.

It was pretty quick and worked fine. I had the same train car/seat on both trains.
