Train from Vienna to Bratislava and back to Vienna

I am planning a day trip to Bratislava when I am in Vienna. I found out the last train back to Vienna from Bratislava is 13:15. Is that true? Does anyone know any later train back to Vienna? Or bus? Thanks.

Where did you look? According to the website of the ÖBB the last train leaves at 23.15!

Where are you looking? Go to www.bahn.com.
I see up to 2 trains every hour. one from Petrzalka station at 15 past the hour and one from Main station at 38 past the hour. Last train is at 11:15 pm from Petrzalka station. If there is a particular problem due to track work, I know not, as you have not given your travel date.

Lesson 101 for looking up train connections: Always try first the website of the railroad company which operates the respective route.
In the case of Vienna <--> Bratislava this is OeBB (Austrian Railways): https://www.oebb.at/en/

The last train back to Vienna is at 10:38pm departing from Main Station and at 11:15pm from Petrzalka Station.

... or at Bahn.de, which aggregates the train planners of almost all European railway companies.

For Bratislava there is a special "Bratislover" package available at the train ticket counters in Vienna. It consists of a return ticket (for either route) and free rides on Bratislava's trams and busses for one day. See link in previous post.

The best way to travel to Bratislava is by bus, as the station is right downtown. The train stations in Bratislava are not in the center and require figuring out local transportation. Google Flixbus and Eurolines - the fare is also only 3 Euro.

That said, if you take the train, then get the Bratislover ticket suggested by my fellow local expert, wmt1. Listen to the locals!

And Petrzalka is well linked by bus to the center. One line (#80) stops in front of the station, two others (#91, 93) directly behind the station building.

Although Vienna is not among the top 10 European cities regarding pickpocketing, you should be careful anytime. Don't carry items with you which you don't actually need. E.g. a cousin of my wife had the keys from her house in NY stolen in Vienna, her US driver license, $500 in cash, etc. Fortunately she had not her passport in her bag.

Most such incidents happen in a scrum like when you concentrate on boarding a subway or a train in crowd.
