Hello all, My wife and I will be flying into Vienna airport from Dubrovnik with Austrian Airlines and scheduled to arrive at 10:30 am on Sunday September 8th.. Our plans are then to take the Railjet train to Salzburg. I want to pre-buy the ticket since the price of the ticket skyrockets if you wait to but the day of departure. My question is, if I buy a 12:03 pm ticket, will that give me enough time to get through customs, collect my bags and catch the train? I know there is the S-Bahn, but I would rather not have to make a connection before heading into Salzburg. Thanks in advance.
Will it be enough time? Probably, but no guarantees. Are you willing to take the risk for 19 Euro per ticket? I would be.
If it doesn’t work out, then take the Railjet to Hauptbahnhof (tickets are about 3 Euro each) and then switch to a Westbahn train where tickets are bought on board, also cheaply.
It should be unless your arrival is late. I have won a few and lost once doing this. Worst case, you will be buying a new ticket upon arrival - been there, done that.
Looks like the Sept 8 12:03 has Sparschiene tickets costing 89.80 EUR for 2. I don't think that is a big enough discount on the 115.80 EUR walk-up price to risk buying Sparschiene tickets. If you are price sensitive, do as Emily suggests with Westbahn. If convenience is more important, just buy a full price ticket after you arrive, clear Schengen immigration and get your luggage.
Thanks all! Think I will wait to purchase the ticket when I arrive. Appreciate all your advice!
Sam, where do you find the walk up ticket price?
I just look up the price for the next train today or tomorrow morning.

Paying that huge walk up price with Oebb is crazy. Please take the Westbahn train instead which will be a fraction of the cost.
I agree Emily. Definitely will plan to do that. Just to clarify, I can but the Westbahn ticket on the train? How do you pay for them?
Yes, you can buy the Westbahn tickets on the train or from a Tabak (there is one at Hauptbahnhof right between the Erste Bank and the lockers).
