Train from Salzburg to Zurich with the Swiss Travel Pass

I was wondering if the train from Salburg to Zurich is included on the Swiss Pass. I have read that only the portion in Switzerland would be covered but we would have to pay for the portion of the trip in Austria. How do I go about that if I make reservations ahead of time? Is there a part of the reservation that would allow us to enter our Swiss Travel Pass #?

You will need to buy a separate ticket from Salzburg to the first town across the border. This varies depending on what train or series of trains you are taking. The conductor will come to check that ticket.
Try to stick to direct trains i.e. trains that don't require a change. If you do this then the first stop across the border is Buchs and your Swiss Travel Pass valid from there to Zurich.

You can use the SBB website to determine which town is the first town across the border

Once across the border your Swiss Travel Pass is your ticket. A conductor on the Swiss side of the border will come through and check once you cross the border.

Just book a ticket (with reservation) from Salzburg to Buchs (SG), the first station in Switzerland. Then in Buchs just stay in your seats till Zurich. This is not complicated.

I am btw. not aware of any scenario where you would need to enter a STS #. For making reservations you do not even need to tell them you have a ticket or pass.
