I am looking at the OOB Web site. I see trains through Villach or Innsbruck. It seems that from Villach it is actually a bus to Venice, but is it a bus or a train via Innsbruck? When I googled EC 87 and EC 31, the site calls them trains. We would prefer to go the entire distance by train if this is possible. Does anyone know about train vs. bus on these routes?

From Innsbruck it is a train, starting in Munich. One of the best train routes in Europe, crossing the Dolomites mountain range.

Yes, EC 31 goes Villach to Venice via Tarviso and Udine. This is the fastest route from Salzburg.
EC 87 goes Innsbruck to Venice via Bolzano and Verona.
