train from Salzburg HBF to Munich

2 adults need to travel on Friday, 6/26 from Salzburg HBF to Munchen Rosenheimer Platz. I am looking at the DB website and there are 3 options with widely different prices. Obviously, I want the cheapest one but not sure why the second option is so cheap compared to the other 2 options. Which one should we select?

11:00-13:00 2h RJX 262 for 115.40 euro

11:05-13:10 2h 5 min RES for 44 euro

12:00-13:40 ICE 118 1h 40 min for 94 euro

They are giving you a price for a Bayern Ticket for 2 people on the second train. It includes all local trains, Trams, U-Bahns in Bavaria for the day. Therefore includes the train from Salzburg Hbf (considered a Bavarian station) to Munich Ostbahnhof where you change to an S-Bahn to Rosenheimer Platz. Your ticket will include all public transportation for the rest of the day in Munich.

You do not have to buy in advance.

So it sounds like I am ok to buy the second ticket. Even though it has more stops, it only takes 5 more minutes...am I missing something?

Yes, get the Bayern Ticket and take the 11:05 regional train. Since there are no seat reservations, get to the station early and board as soon as the train is spotted on the platform and you will be the first to board and get your pick of seats. If you buy the ticket out of the DB kiosk, write your names in ink on the back of the ticket.

Looks like you arrive on Platform 6 at Munich Ost, the next S-Bahn to Roenheimer Platz is from Platform 3, with 8 minute connection time, If you miss it, there are other S-Bahns to Rosenheimer Platz from Platform 1. It is only about 1 or 2 minutes to Rosenheimer Platz, it is the very next stop on the the line, so no reason to get comfortable.
