Please provide us with a specific date. There are track repairs ongoing during certain weeks which will have effects on the train schedule.

If you must go from point A to point B on a particular date it doesn’t change what train company website you go to.

At 10:21 in the morning OBB has a train that is about five and a half hours, with one change, and the thing worth laughing about is that OBB has a cheap 1st class seat for 54.80€ with the seat assignment or a 95.90 full price 2nd class seat with the seat assignment.

Ceske Drahy has the same train, 2nd class for 496 koruna which is about 21€ including the seat assignment. Sort of what I expected.

But check me on that. I did it pretty quickly.

I don't get quite the same results but do agree that Czech Railways is (as usual Cheapest) and that the upgrade to 1st class is modest enough that I wouldn't hesitate to do it.

OBB- 2nd class €95.90 cancellable to 3 Sep (use any train that day); 1st class non refundable- €54.80, refundable free until 20 Aug, thereafter for a fee of €35.25- €70.50 (that train only), €158.10 (any train that day)

CD- 2nd class 694 CZK (assigned seats only to Linz, refundable to 3 Sep), €28.65 , 2029 CZK (use any train that day)- €83.76- , 1st class 1265 CZK (assigned seats only to Linz, refundable to 3 Sep for a fee of €3)- €52.22

Yes, I accept that Czech Railways don't seemingly reserve beyond Linz, but I just don't see that as an issue on OBB- if you do then making a reservation on OBB for Linz to Salzburg doesn't alter the basic mathematics.

You can make a seat assignment with OeBB without having bought the ticket from them.
