Is there a train from the Munich airport to Innsbruck or do we need to get into Munich city center to take this train? Up for the scenic route but if it is a hassle I am good with easist meaning less transfers. We will be tired from our flight. Planning on landing around 9:00 am in Munich from a 16 hour trip starting in Nashville, trying to get to Innsbruck for hotel pick up. Thank you.
Just another idea: Our Austrian Air commuter flight from Vienna to Innsbruck was incredibly scenic, and cost virtually nothing on our NYC-VIE-INN / VIE-NYC booking. Do check Lufthansa for connections from European hubs that might suit Nashville. (?)
There is no direct train from Munich airport to Innsbruck. You need to change once at least, or twice for the most scenic route.
Connection having one change: Train S8 to München Ost (Munich East station), continue by RJ (RailJet) train to Innsbruck.
Connection having two changes: Train S1 to München Hbf (Munich main station), change to train RB6 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, continue by train S6 to Innsbruck via Seefeld in Tirol. The last section of the route is very spectacular, see here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/austria/top-3-things-to-see-or-do-in-innsbruck#2050355
Here you can check the connections yourself: https://www.oebb.at/en/
