Train from Innsbruck to Rottach-Egern

Hello All

I am wanting to know if it is possible to travel by train from Innsbruck to Rottach-Egern with the view of catching the Wallbergbahn up the mountain and riding the 6.5km sledding track back down.
Alternatively, should we simply opt for a sledding experience on the mountain closer to Innsbruck?
This December will be our first visit to Austria and we are keen to get into some snow activities.

Thanks in advance :)

The train runs from Munich, so coming from Innsbruck would require an end-run through Rosenheim and Holzkirchen to Tergernsee, then a bus to the Wallbergbahn, about 3 1/2 hours.

It is a bit tricky, but this is the fastest way from Innsbruck to Rottach-Egern using public transport:

Train REX 5311 Innsbruck Hbf - Jenbach (train station) 10:21 - 10:47
Bus 8332 Jenbach (train station) - Maurach Mittelschule 10:54 - 11:18
Bus 9550 Maurach Mittelschule - Rottach-Egern Post 11:18 - 12:30

This is considerably faster than going by train via Munich, not to talk about that the train runs only to Tegernsee, from where you must go by bus or taxi to Rottach-Egern.

This is the only connection which will work (Monday to Friday), because there is only one bus on line # 9550 in the morning.

Although the two bus lines are operated by different companies, the possibility of changing in Maurach Mittelschule is noted in either written time table. Therefore I presume that bus # 9550 will wait for bus # 8332 in Maurach, as the layover is really short.

According to RVO and VVT, those buses run the same schedule on Sat. and Sun.

However, DB and ÖBB show that REX train (5311) running a little earlier, 10:13 - 10:38 on weekdays and not at all on weekends. However, there are lots of trains daily between Innsbruck and Jenbach. Just pick a train that gets to Jenbach in time for the 10:54 bus.

To be precise:
On the weekend of December 10th/11th there is the yearly coordinated train schedule change among all European railway companies.

Before Dec. 10th the REX 5311 will run at 10:13, after Dec. 11th it will depart at 10:21.
