My granddaughter and I will be in Hallstatt from June 29 and leaving on July 1 for Vienna. I’m trying to figure out how to get to a train in the morning to get into Vienna at a decent time. Has anybody done this train trip?
At www.oebb.at you can see the options.
You will need this too. The train station is on the opposite side of the lake. https://hallstattschifffahrt.at/en/
You need to enter "Hallstatt Bahnhst" and "Wien" as starting point and destination, respectively.

Trains are departing at 8:28am, 9:07am, 10:32am, 11:07am, 12:32pm, etc.
The ferry to the train station leaves about 20 minutes prior to every train departure. Attention: You need cash to pay the ferry.
All train connections have one change then to an express train to Vienna.
If you would leave one day earlier in the evening instead, there is one direct train to Vienna per day, departing at 6:03pm. Arriving in Vienna in the night is no big deal. Vienna is very safe, no problem using public transport or walking on the streets in the dark.
BTW, that direct train goes to the Vienna Westbahnhof.
