Train First Class Seat Reservations

I've also posted this in the Germany section, but...

I have first class train tickets on DB from Munich to Vienna, but I was not able to make a seat reservation. Does this mean there is a chance I will have to stand on the train? Or does it just mean that I'll have a first class seat but I won't know where to sit ahead of time?

It will sort out you just won't know where you will be sitting ahead of time; you won't be standing. When you get on you will see which seats in 1st are marked reserved. Sit in one that is not. People will get on and off at different stops from Munich to Vienna.

Have you tried reserving your seat at www.oebb.at? I assume you bought a ticket on one of the direct trains that are all operated by OEBB, the Austrian National Railway. You can look at the carriage diagram pick your seat. It will even show you the number of seats available to be reseved in each carriage. If they are all already reserved, then maybe you can find a reserved seat in 2nd class, even though you paid for a 1st class ticket.

You don't say what train and date you purchased the ticket for, so no one can check.

Texarkana! I’m from Shreveport originally.

What day/time is your train?

I would additionally note for future travelers, that first class on this route is definitely gilding the lily - wholly unnecessary as the normal seats are perfect.

I did this route in november also in first class. I traveled solo so it was worth it to have a seat by myself. If you don't have a seat reservation, there may be a few empty seats and you can take any empty seat, but if not, you'll be standing. You can look for an empty seat in second class.

When is the trip?

When is this trip?

If it is tomorrow and it says that there are no seats available, than it is possible that indeed the train is full. If you have a 1st class ticket and end up not having a seat you can ask for a partial refudn.

If it is in a few days or weeks, and there are no seats offered when you try to reserver it is probably just not possible to reserve seats for that trains. If it is months in the future then probably the railways don't even know which trainset they plan on using on that train, and thus have not loaded any seat inventory yet.

Trains in Europe do not sell out days in advanve. If they would, they would bbe useless. Most of the people you will be sharing that train with will have bought their ticket on the day of travel itself, and will not have reservations.

I did Vienna - Salzburg with Westbahn, they told me if I thought first class looked better when I was on the train I could upgrade.

It wasn't substantially different so I didn't. I'm sure OBB is the same.
