Hello!
I will be traveling from Vienna to Innsbruck via train and want to spend two days in a town that would serve as a good spot to explore. I have seen lots of comments on Hallstatt and of course the amazing Hallstatt which look amazing but want to consider other options. The pinch is we will not have a car and will be traveling by train and/or bus. Any towns in the salkammergut region that come to mind or perhaps a different region? I enjoy hiking, scenery, biking, swimming and pretty much anything.
I have nothing against Salzburg and Hallstatt, just curious what else people have explored.

Bad Ischl, loved it so much I never made it to salzburrg!
So will have to return one day?

The other main area covered in Rick's books and TV shows is the charming portion of the Danube Valley around Melk.
