Tipping in Vienna

Hello, I am wondering what is a customary tipping in Vienna. For a Taxi driver, if we have preordered and agreed upon a price, what percentage of tipping is expected? Thanks.

For a pre-ordered taxi, I would give the driver 1 euro for every piece of luggage. He won't be expecting a tip, so you will pleasantly surprise him/her.

For meals, you typically round up. So for a 5.85 Euro bill at a coffeehouse, I would hand the waiter a 10 Euro note and tell them to make it 7 Euro total, meaning they will give you back 3 Euro. For a larger bill, like 75 Euro, I would give about 10%, but there is no hard and fast rule. Waiters don't really expect tips of any significant amount as they are paid properly.

Follow the tipping as you would do in Germany. The worst part is if the bill comes to 5,85 Euro. Some people do pay not a cent more, telling the waiter/waitress that the total is seven Euro is what I would do too. True, I find the wait staff not expecting a tip at all, all the more so in small locals only eateries. Watch how the locals operate when paying, do likewise

It's not 'necessary', but it is appreciated. Especially if the service has been helpful to a foreigner.

Round it up.
Tell what you want to pay, not what you want back
Don't leave the tip on the table--give it directly to the server when you pay the bill.

James, yes, wait staff are paid a living wage and will be additionally under the Austrian social umbrella which includes health care, etc. As mentioned above, rounding up is normal practice, but not expected or required.
