Ticket for bus from Hallstatt to Salzburg?

How do you buy a ticket online for the bus from Hallstatt to Salzburg (via Bad Ischl)? I tried looking on oebb.at and it shows me the times but says tickets are not available for the buses.

In 2009, I went from Salzburg Hbf to Mondsee to Bad Ischl (via St. Wolfgang) to Hallstatt by bus. I didn't need to buy my tickets online, I just bought them from the driver on the bus. I think often we Americans, since the only way we can travel over here is by plane, and we need reservations, think we need tickets in advance everywhere in Europe. This is not the case there.

Are you only interested in the bus? In Sept. I took the train from Hallstatt to Salzburg. A boat named Stephanie takes you from Hallstatt to the little train station. From there you catch the train to Salzburg. I bought my tickets in Salzburg for the trip to Hallstatt and back .

The bus station in Hallstatt is actually in Lahn, a half km south of Hallstatt on the pedestrian road along the lakeside (worked for me because I was staying in Lahn).

There are frequent buses between Lahn and Obertraun (the next stop after the station across the lake from Hallstatt).

I am planning to take the train from Vienna to Hallstatt but I heard the bus route between Hallstatt and Salzburg is more scenic than the train, so I was trying to take the train for that leg. I'm basically just wondering if I can buy the necessary bus ticket(s) (from Bad Ischl > Salzburg) online. I know I can buy the short train ticket from Hallstatt's train station > Bad Ischl online but it doesn't show me the option for the bus.

Generally you can't buy bus tickets online except for long-distance intercity services. You should be able to buy the ticket on the bus.

"You should be able to buy the ticket on the bus."

You can buy the tickets on the bus. That's what I did.

You probably don't need to buy the ticket from Hallstatt station to Bad Ischl online. I think there will be a ticket automat in the station across the lake from Hallstatt (anyone?). I took the bus from Salzburg to Bad Ischl via Mondsee and Bad Wolfgang and bought all my tickets from the bus drivers. It was scenic; I can't speak to the rail line from Bad Ischl via Attnang-Puchheim to Salzburg. There is also a direct bus from Bad Ischl to Salzburg.

Alyssa,

" I know I can buy the short train ticket from Hallstatt's train station"

I'm not sure if that's the case as the station in Hallstatt is unmanned. As someone else mentioned, you'll first have to take the short ride from Hallstatt across the lake in Stefanie, which I'd recommend as there are some fantastic views of the town from the water. If you're planning to take the train from Hallstatt to Salzburg, I'd suggest buying the ticket for that while in Vienna.

The trip from Hallstatt to Salzburg is actually fairly straightforward, and there's always one change at Attnang-Puchheim. I've never taken the Bus on that route, but the train was scenic enough for me.

If the station is unmanned, you will still be able to buy a ticket from a machine at the station. All railway ticket machines in Germany and Austria have good quality English-language interface options. The only problem is that the machine may not take banknotes or credit cards, so it would be a good idea to stock up on enough coins to pay the fare.
