Third Man Museum seeks help

I'm a big fan of the Third Man Museum in Vienna. Back in 2015, I did a Cold War Vienna Tour that included a visit to the museum with Gerhard, one of the owners of the museum. He is a great guy, and the museum has an amazing collection. If interested in supporting the museum during this lean year...

Thanks Dave! I just bought a picture of a film clip from the film with a card from Gerhard. This is a fascinating museum in Vienna I visited this past December. I didn’t realize that would be my last European trip for a while. I really hope they can survive, it’s such a worthwhile endeavor.

As a film buff it's one of my favorite museums, I have a little music box of the movie's theme I bought at their gift shop sitting on my desk. If you are on the fence about donating, there are different levels that include some neat rewards that are worth it for just that.

I loved this little museum!
It was included on the MSV Rick Steves tour, and some of the photos of post war Vienna brought me to tears.
I hope to see the museum again someday, and it only took me a few minutes to decide to donate.

Great film ! one of the many striking touches is Carol Reed's technique of shooting everything on an angle , which defines the action . Needless to say , the Zither music score by Anton Karas is notable . An instrument of Austrian and German origin , Johann Strauss II used it to great effect in his waltz " Tales from the Vienna Woods " - This performance from the Vienna New Years Concert 2014 includes the original Zither part ( often substituted by the strings , when a Zither is unavailable ) . The photography of The Wienerwald and Klosterneuberg Abbey is the next best thing to being there - https://youtu.be/9Nl8y5KLpqs

I also loved the Third Man Museum. Very interesting exhibits and Gerhardt is wonderful. I sent a donation via the link above. Very easy.

My first visit to Vienna in 2014 focused on all things Third Man, my all-time favorite movie. The museum was so delightfully and meticulously curated and cared for and it really does a great job not just with the artifacts pertaining to the movie but also about life in Vienna after the war. I will be making a donation from Gerhard's FB page for the museum, and hope to visit it again on another trip.

I received an email from “StartNext” today stating that the Third Man Museum’s fundraising goal was met. Great news! I also saw on Twitter that the Museum is re-opening on 13 June. If you liked the Museum, next time you’re in Vienna consider taking the Third Man Walking Tour. It was a lot of fun seeing some sites where the movie was shot. But of course stop by the Museum again and say hi to Gerhard and Karin.

Thank you for posting this. I made a donation. Gerhard was a wonderful tour guide and we enjoyed spending time at the museum and experiencing Vienna through his expertise. It is gratifying to see all the donations add up and help them save this museum.

Note that if you go to the startnext page, they have received less than 1/3 of the amount they felt they needed to cover their expenses for the year. Glad they are okay for now, but they might still be underfunded.

They originally sought to raise 24,000 Euros and to date have received donations totalling 9,443 Euros. Since the Museum is opening next month, they’ve probably been closed for only 4 months. So, the donations should cover the incurred expenses. Due to various travel restrictions, one can assume that the number of visitors will be greatly decreased in the second half of the year, so it’s good that the StartNext fundraising is slated to continue for about 3 more weeks (until 8 June 2020). I think Gerhard has bought 4 apartments to house the collection, which explains the significant operating costs.

News, the mail delivered my film clip yesterday. So pleased to have with Gerhard and his partner’s autographs. And happy I could help a worthy cause, sure hope they survive.
