The Salzkammergut in November

I'm looking for advice on traveling in The Salzkammergut in November. We primarily became interested in the area for scenic hikes, however we are now realizing November will be too cold/snowy for our comfort level while hiking. Is it still a good place to spend a week for some quiet time away between Salzburg & Vienna? Are restaurants and lodgings typically open? We are slow travelers and are happy to curl up with a book away from crowds and typical travel entertainment.

Yes, but as you mentioned this is the season where many places close between seasons (Betriebsurlaub). Most lifts, boats etc. will not be running. Probably skip the ski areas and look for a small city near an attraction. The locals still go out etc. You will probably have to poke around on the Net and maybe contact a few tourist offices. Maybe find an open Landgasthof or nice Post Hotel? Maybe look for a hotel with half board and wellness, indoor outdoor pool, Kamin or Kachelöfen? I assume it is not this November. The first Advent is this coming weekend. 5-6 December is Krampus and St Nicholas.

I was there a month ago and the weather was fine. Try looking for places on a lake like the Wolfgangsee that are open and quiet.

When in November matters a lot. Mid to late November many towns Advent Markets will be up and in full swing.

The Salzkammergut is largely a foothill area, with rounded mountains of moderate height. There are some big mountain areas that could be snowed in, but probably not in the lower areas, and probably not in the towns. Probably.

There is abundant valley/lakeside/village to village walking in the Salzkammergut (my family did a walking tour across much of it), so don't give up on the idea of walking in pretty surroundings.

How long will your stay be? There are not just hotels but many vacations rentals. In November you'll have a lot of reasonable options.
