The best of Austria in 4 days!

Hello fellow travelers!

We (small group of adults) have four days to get a very cursory overview of Austria this August. Yes, I know that’s not enough time!
We’ve never been. We’d like to END in Vienna and get a quick taste of the best areas of Austria. Yes, I know we need more time!
We go dawn to dusk. We like to see the highlights and move on. Just humor me with any suggestions you might have, outside of “You don’t have enough time!” because I am already aware of that. We need to work with the time we have, knowing that we may or may not be back.
Many thanks in advance for any helpful comments:)

From Dallas?
Does the 4 days include arrival day, in which case you'd have 3 full days + a few odd hours (4 nights)?

Options: Just Vienna or Vienna + Salzburg or Vienna + salzburg + Hallstatt

If it were me, I do Vienna and a Salzburg!

Have fun!

"Austria Itinerary

So much to see, so little time. How to choose? To help you get started, I've listed my top picks for where to go in Austria (and a few great spots just over the border), and my plan for your best two-week trip.
Depending on the length of your trip, and taking geographic proximity into account, these are following my recommended priorities:
3 days: Vienna
5 days: Salzburg
7 days, add: Hallstatt
10 days, add: Danube Valley, Bavarian Alps (Germany)/western Tirol
14 days, add: Innsbruck, Dolomites (Italy), Bratislava (Slovakia)
16 days, add: More time in Vienna"

Salzburg and Vienna!

Assuming you will have a rental car, and if you truly want to overextend your already overextended 4 day itinerary, I loved Hallstatt. Depart Salzburg, get to Hallstatt at the crack of dawn, take a lake cruise, tour the salt mine, stroll around the cute village, depart for Vienna. (We were there in 2017 when it was uncrowded. Heard it's a mob scene now, but it's a very pretty area.) I'm not selling it as sensible with your timeframe, and I'd probably just stick to Salzburg and Vienna, but it's something to toss into the ring!

Watch the movie, Woman In Gold before you go to Vienna. Then go enjoy the Klimt art and lots of other treasures at the Belvedere.
