I have a friend who really likes teas from around the world. We all hear a lot about the Vienna coffee scene. Is there a tea scene? Does anyone have a recommended Vienna tea for my friend the tea connoisseur?
Shhhhh....don't tell anyone, but I only drink tea.
My top recommendation for tea is Haas & Haas (https://haas-haas.at/) which is directly behind Stephansplatz. Your friend will find there a lovely shop with top tier teas to buy as well as a tea house, for lovely breakfasts and lunches. Haas & Haas also provides a view to one of many hidden old courtyards in the First District.
My next recommendation is Julius Meinl, yes the original coffeemakers. Their shop at the end of the Graben at the intersection of Kohlmarkt is a wonderland of fine foods, including tea. Meinl has their own brand of tea which is high quality.
I also recommend Demmer's Teehaus, which has several locations in Vienna. This is a local brand, also of excellent tea. The location at Mölker Bastei 5 is the most central and atmospheric. Be sure to walk around the corner to the Dreimäderlhaus.
Lastly, it is probably good to keep in mind that you can always order tea at any coffeehouse in Vienna. That's what I do!
Thanks, Emily.
