Taking the train from Graz to Prague

Any information about the OBB Railjet train from Graz to Prague? I understand it is a scenic route. How far in advance should we buy tickets for June 2026? How early should we be at the station? Thanks for suggestions.

On December 14th, 2025 there is the change to the new train time tables throughout Europe. It is best to book after that date, if it is already possible for such a future date. You should buy seat reservations, so you have guaranteed seats. Therefore you need not to be early at the train station. In fact it is enough to board the train one minute before departure, and search for your seats in the moving train. Not that I recommend this.

You need a ticket at the latest before you board the train. Buying a ticket in advance however can give you substantial savings. There is no need however to buy your tickets a year in advance. Most people buy their tickets on, or close to, the day of travel. Have a look around on www.oebb.at and look at prices for eg. today, and a few weeks from now to get a feel what schedules, prices and availability are.

And given that boarding a train just means walking from the street to the train, and getting on you do not need to be very early at the station. If you are unfamiliar with train travel maybe give yourself 15 minutes.

One note: Usually we say people to expect the schedules not to change to much form year to year, the you can expect what is there now to be there a year from now as well.

However, Austria will open the Koralm tunnel in December, and that will have significant impact on Graz - Vienna services. However I would expect more, not less trains...
