Hello,
We will be traveling from Vienna to Salzburg, and then to Reutte, and are trying to choose a mountain viewing platform with a spectacular view along the route or within a short detour. Which one would you recommend?
Thank you very much in advance.
Hi, how are you traveling and what route will you be taking from Salzburg to Reutte?
The Nordkettenbahn is terrific in Innsbruck.
The Zugspitze is easily reached from Reutte, from nearby Ehrwald Austria.
Thank you Paul! We will be driving, so we could take any route, and Zugspitze is really closed to Reutte.
Hi again. I’m wondering why you chose Reutte. We’ve visited twice (because of Rick’s book) and wouldn’t be on our list of places to stay. Perhaps that’s just us.
Hi Paul, the truth is I am obsessed with suspended bridges :-), and Highline179 seems to be a spectacular one. Besides, our return flight is from Munich, and we also plan to visit Neuschwanstein on the way. We plan to stay 5 days in Vienna, and the first part of our trip is mostly art museums and architecture, while the second part is around natural and engineering wonders: caves, mountaints, bridges, cable cars...
Makes sense.
Just FYI. We stayed here by Neuschwanstein last December.
How did you get from the hotel to the castle?
We had a rental car. Neuschwanstein was about 5 min drive away.
So you did manage to find a parking spot? We also plan to rent a car, but it looks like parking is a problem there.
We did find parking at Neuschwanstein. They have vast parking lots. You need to buy tickets in advance if you wish to tour Neuschwanstein. It’s very very busy. In Dec we didn’t tour Neuschwanstein yet we walked up and bought tickets to tour Hohenschwangau on the spot.
My opinion is, I like the Neuschwanstein tour but found touring Linderhof to more amazing inside.
I know that in order to catch tickets to Neuschwanstein for month N, you have to be on their website the last day of month (N-2) at 4pm EST exactly. Normally, we try to avoid this kind of hype, but I feel our teen daughter would need something like that after days of Klimt and Hundertwasser.
... you have to be on their website the last day of month (N-2) at 4pm EST exactly.
I presume that it is 4am EST, equivalent to 10am CET (local time in Germany).
I think it is midnight CET, thus 6pm our time, but I will check this month.
