Suggestions for stay in Salzburg

My wife and I are taking a 2 week guided tour with Grand Circle to Alpine Italy, Switzerland and Austria this June. We are thinking a 2 or 3 day visit to Salzburg. We will finish up in Munich with one day stay. After Munich we plan to train over to Salzburg and then train back to Munich for our flight home. Do you suggest a 2 or 3 day visit to Salzburg? Any suggestions for a hotel or B and B in central Salzburg. Thanks so much. Pat Mahin

Hi Pat, i’ve stayed a couple of times at Altstadthotel Weisse Taube & last time at Hotel Elefant when the other one was booked. They’re both great.

Three days for sure. There’s a lot to do in Salzburg. The fortress, church, museums, music concerts, etc. and wonderful hiking nearby. I’ve even done the Sound of Music tour last time which was fun.

We like Hotel Goldgasse. Salzburg is amazing and I think at least 3 full days. If you have time, the salt mine with the slides, train, and boat is so good.

I stayed three days and felt it was perfect. I also suggest getting the Salzburg card which saves money on a lot attraction and on the buses. Stayed in Hotel Weiße Taube and while it’s far from luxurious it’s in a perfect location with a good breakfast and a hostess. I loved to wake up and hear the church bells from my window.

I also suggest getting the Salzburg card ...

You will get a complimentary public transport pass, valid for the whole State of Salzburg, from your hotel.

I stayed at the Hotel Elefant too. Very nice and convenient. Sorry, didn't fall in love with Salzbutg. 2 nights was enough. But we are all different. Loved my night in Hallstat and coukd have done 2. Wasn't criwded that September.

Three days IMO, especially after two weeks on a tour when a slower pace feels good. Day one the old town and the fortress, day two Mirabell, Mozart’s birthplace and an evening concert, day three a half day out to the salt mine at Hallein that ChinaLake mentioned or over to Hallstatt. The Salzburg Card is worth it as heather says since it covers the fortress funicular, the museums and the buses. For central stays Weisse Taube and Goldgasse are both on the old town side and Hotel Elefant too. If you’d like quieter evenings, Hotel Stein or a small pension in the Andräviertel puts you a short walk over the Makartsteg
