Stranded in Vienna follow up question

We are now thinking perhaps we should buy completely new tickets from here to London, then London to NYC and we can catch a flight on Hawaiian airlines. Anyone have suggestions for a reliable airlines from Vienna to London?

Any other route suggestions are appreciated as well

That will cost you a lot of money; more than you would receive under the EU compensation law. Before you break the bank, why not go to the Vienna airport and hunt down an Austrian Airlines agent there and find out what is going on and what they will do for you?

You can book American Airlines...Vienna to NYC. Your Vienna to London leg will be operated by British Airways. But, it's going to be expensive one way, last minute.

I'd still go to the airport and see what Austrian Airlines can work out for you.

Do not buy any new tickets on your own, that will be expensive and you will not get that money back from Austrian airlines. Go to the airport and speak to someone in person.

Also, don't start a new thread. It's much easier to follow if all your posts are in the same thread.

It's really not that difficult. Get in touch with someone at Austrian Airlines. All you have to say is..."we were booked on Flilght XXX on (give date). We got notice the flight was cancelled. What alternate flights are you offering?"

It's that simple. No one should give you the runaround. Ask for a supervisor if they do.

If this was on two separate tickets....meaning one for VIE-JFK and the other for JFK-HNL then Austrian is only responsible for the VIE-JFK flight.

If you continue to make your own arrangments without letting Austrian try to come up with a solution.

--you could be out thousands of dollars extra;

--your insurance company does not have to reimburse you because they will say you didn't give the airline a chance to rebook you;

--you may not be covered under EU 261 because you did not give the airline a chance to make it right.

When is/was the flight?

Thank you all. My husband finally got someone to help us and we are now trying to reserve specific seats. It literally took the entire day. We are going to work on getting seats online when we return from the Spanish riding school.

The problem was we couldn't get anyone to answer our calls or help us when we called. Literally the entire day was spent trying to speak to an agent. My only comment is do not fly Austrian Air. Worst airlines ever. Not a big deal to have your flight canceled but to make it so difficult to rebook is not ok. Never had an experience this bad ever

How about considering other airports from which to fly out of in regards to a flight to the US?

Did you look at flying out of Linz to London or New York? What about about Munich?

If you cannot get anything out of Vienna, I would suggest Linz or Munich. Both have direct connections to CA.
